June 27 Meeting (Nashua Unitarian Church) Thanks to Vaughn Darnell!
Mission Statement: Following brief discussion, it was decided to save
further refinment of the draft until later.
Steering Committee: Randy Kottwitz, Maureen Kelley and Ron Cooke have
volunteered for this role, to be essential once Common Ground becomes
established as viable.
Youth Leaders: There was discussion about the need to nurture future
leaders, possibly through schools/colleges and the various Outright (gay
youth) organizations around the state. Other ideas appreciated.
Actions:
- 1. Directory of Progressive Organizations in New Hampshire: Jim Giddings is
currently at work on both a form for organizations to fill out and send back
to us with info for the directory and also a letter introducing Common
Ground to these organizations. Please forward any names and addresses for
progressive organizations in NH (interpreted broadly) to Paige Roberts so
that we can send them the form for inclusion in our directory.
- 2. Forums on the Religious Right: We reached agreement on the need to
identify our enemies and thus about the need for regularly scheduled forums
on the Right based on specific issues (eg. history of the Right, education,
women, gays, labor/economics, religion, arts, people of color, militia,
environment, health care etc.) to educate ourselves and others and to build
membership and interest in Common Ground. Discussion will occur at the next
meeting about forum logistics: location (centralized?), dates, speakers,
PR/marketing etc.
other: Dave Pike (tel. 436-9039) will be doing a radio show on WUNH 91.3
Monday nights 10pm-2am with alternative news. Contact him with your ideas,
announcements, programs etc.
