Youth Religious Education
The Youth Religious Education (YRE) committee is responsible for the care and education of children who attend meeting. This includes finding teachers and planning classes and programs for children of all ages. We make an effort to educate our children in Quaker History, Bible Study, Peace and Social action, Religions Around the World, and Faithful Stewardship of Our Environment.
We encourage our children to participate in Yearly Meeting weekend retreats (offered around New England during the school year) and in the Yearly Meeting’s weeklong summer gathering. These provide opportunities for fellowship and for the children to gain a sense of being part of Quakerism beyond their home meetings.
Recently, in line with similar work other mainstream churches have been doing, the YRE committee researched and wrote a minute on Child Safety, with attention to the prevention of child abuse in a religious setting. Monadnock Meeting adopted this minute in November, 2008.
